Abstract

Much has been discussed and written about the events at Mid Staffordshire Hospitals which led to the Francis Inquiry. The quality of leadership then and now has formed much of the debate. This short paper discusses some of the analysis of both Francis inquiries and seeks to understand the impact that these reports have had on the quality of leadership and the legacy from the mistakes documented at the time. Has the system which allowed the events at Mid Staffordshire to happen changed suffi ciently to create a climate where the right leadership behaviours are allowed to fl ourish? Have we learnt the lessons from those inquires?
