Partial Methylation of Benzyl 4-O-Methyl-beta-D-Xylopyranoside.

Abstract

Thin layer chromatography has been used for the quantitative separation of the components obtained on the partial methylation of benzyl 4-0-methyl-jS-D-xylopyranoside. From the \ranalytical figures obtained, the relative rates of methylation of the hydroxyl groups at C-2 hydroxyl group the reactivity at the C-3 hydroxyl group increased 3.0 times. Methylation at the C-3 hydroxyl group did not affect the reactivity at the C-2 hydroxyl group.
