Abstract

Background: Alcohol consumption among college students is a significant global problem. It has the potential to cause decreased physical activity and cognitive impairment. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between alcohol consumption and physical activity and cognitive impairment in college students in Yogyakarta. Method: This was a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected from 100 active college students in Yogyakarta using a purposive sampling method. The instruments used included the AUDIT questionnaire to measure alcohol consumption levels, IPAQ-SF to measure physical activity, and MoCA-Ina to measure cognitive function. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test and Spearman Rank correlation. Result: The results of this study showed a significant relationship between alcohol consumption levels and physical activity (χ²(6) = 49.111, p < 0.05), as well as a correlation coefficient (ρ = -0.559, p < 0.05). In addition, there is a significant relationship between alcohol consumption and cognitive impairment (χ²(6) = 67.323, p < 0.05) with a correlation coefficient (ρ = -0.618, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Alcohol consumption is significantly related to decreased physical activity and cognitive impairment in students. This finding indicates that the higher the level of alcohol consumption, the lower the level of physical activity and cognitive function of students.
