Abstract

Summary: Inadvertent oesophageal intubation and subsequent inflation was followed by perforation of the stomach on insertion of a Verres needle and laparoscope. Despite early recognition of the incorrect placement of the endotracheal tube and compression of the abdomen, the stomach had not been deflated before peritoneal insufflation was started. Following suturing of the perforations recovery was uneventful. © 1972 John Sherratt and Son Ltd.
