Normal and diarrheic calves were given a single injection of tritiated water. Normal calves had a water space of 87% of the body weight compared to 76% in diarrheic calves. On the basis of mixing pool kinetics, dehydration during diarrhea appeared to be evenly distributed throughout the body compartments. The turnover of the body water pool increased sharply as diarrhea became more severe. © 1969, American Dairy Science Association. All rights reserved.
