Abstract

Mythology is a domain that exists as a norm in any cultures, races, ethnics and communities in the world. It involves the seen and the unseen world. A significant entity in mythology is supernatural beings. Ethnics and races in Malaysia also believe in supernatural beings including native tribes in Pitas district, Sabah who are Muslims. Therefore, this research was conducted to identify mythology of supernatural beings in their community. The data collection method used was interview. Seven respondents were selected among the community leaders. Findings showed that mythology of supernatural beings was influenced by animism. As a result, some community members involve in shirk, superstition, worshipping rituals and black magic. Thus, this issue should be taken into consideration by authorities especially Islamic Religious Departments and preachers in order to protect the aqidah among the society.
