Abstract

Personality describes a relatively stable set of individual differences in patterns of attitude, motivation, and behavior. The idea that these personal characteristics might be relevant to health is not new, but the ways in which we examine these associations have become more sophisticated with time. We now know a great deal about the ways in which personality and health are linked, and increasingly recognize that these links are complex and multi-faceted.
