Abstract

The business world is dynamic and unpredictable. To adapt and survive in this kind of business environment, enterprises must implement competitive intelligence. Competitive intelligence produces actionable intelligence that provides help in decisionmaking and provides competitive advantage to enterprises. In order for competitive intelligence to be effective, it must be correctly located within the enterprise. There has been disagreement on where competitive intelligence should be located within the enterprise. Moreover, little research has been conducted on where within the enterprise to place competitive intelligence. Also, research conducted with regard to competitive intelligence location has been on larger enterprises than small ones. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to establish the location of competitive intelligence within small and mediumsized enterprises.
