Abstract

In this review, the evidence for the role of footwear in causing, healing, and preventing foot ulceration in diabetic patients is discussed. The mechanisms of action of therapeutic footwear are elucidated, and and 'ideal' approach to footwear prescription is outlined. Finally, some future directions for 'intelligent' footwear are also presented. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
