Abstract

The determination of ambient air quality with the parameters of PM10 and PM2.5 using Gent Stacked Filter Unit Sampler can be applied to complement air pollutant parameters for the air quality calculation, which is part of the Environmental Quality Index (EQI) calculation. The EQI is a representation that gives an early indication or a rapid conclusion of an environmental condition on the specific scope and period. In the EQI formulation issued by the Ministry of Environment through studies since 2009-2014, the parameters used for air quality only SO2 and NO2 . This study aimed to comprehend the air quality parameters used for the EQI calculation by adding other parameters such as PM10 and PM2.5. Ideally there are 5 parameters: SO2 , NO2 , PM10, PM2.5 and O3 representing air quality calculations for EQI. The PM10 and PM2.5 are major air pollutants that had a large impact on human health. The WHO set an annual standard for PM10 is 20μg/m3 and for PM2.5 is 10μg/m3. Data of PM10 and PM2.5 from this study are expected to complete the future EQI study. This study shows the criteria result of the Air Qual- ity Index (AQI) simulation in the Provinces of Banten, Central Java, East Java and Bali using the AQI calculator was “good” if only the parameters of SO2 and NO2 . However, when parameters PM10 and PM2.5 were included, the criteria results become “moderate”, except Bali is still “good”. This demonstrates that the PM10 and PM2.5 are sensitive parameters that change the results of air quality criteria. It is hoped by adding parameters of PM10 and PM2.5 can be obtained AQI approaching real conditions.
