Abstract
The nickel industry in Australia has expanded to become one of the world's largest producers. Most nickel resources occur in sulfide form, with nickel being recovered at a lower cost compared to laterite deposits. Resources have increased steadily in recent years to more than 7 million mt of contained nickel. Therefore, potential exists for substantial expansion in both mine and smelter/refinery production to meet market recovery demand and long-term requirements.
