Abstract

The impact of ER levels on the response to tamoxifen was evaluated in 1623 postmenopausal primary breast cancer patients treated at our center (median follow-up 8.2 years). In patients receiving adjuvant tamoxifen a significantly longer disease-free survival (DFS) was observed when ER levels were elevated (p < 0.00001). Very high ER (> 424 fmol/mg protein) appeared to be detrimental in node-negative patients not treated with tamoxifen.
