Abstract

The method for testing seed quality was conducted using ISTA method (1999) to obtain physiological and physical seed information. The physical seed quality was reflected by weight of 1000 seeds and the physiological seed quality was evaluated based on the results of germination test. The objective of this research was to obtain the best method for seed testing on both physical and physiological quality of forest tree seed. Pulai's (Alstonia scholaris) seed was collected from the field and tested on both physical and physiological quality in the laboratory. Germination medium used for the germination test in the laboratory was merang paper, while in green house was the mixture of sand and soil (v/v) 1:1. The average of moisture content was 9.94 %. The weight of 1000 seeds and the total number of seeds in one kilogram were 1.98 g and 535,308 seeds. The best result in the germination test was achieved by those tested in green house.
