This paper results from a broad investigation of sites of similar age and composition on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula, North Island, New Zealand, and its offshore islands. A point of similarity in these sites is the presence of large specimens of a species of limpet, Cellana denticulata. A study of the modern habitats occupied by this species suggests that the species forms a temporal link between many of these sites, as it seldom occurs in -the area today and does not appear to breed there. © 1976 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
