Abstract
A compact photonic crystal defect nanocavity was fabricated on a sapphire substrate. Continuous wave lasing at room temperature was achieved with a low threshold power. We characterized the operated mode, quality factor and radiative efficiency for the compact laser. The thermal properties of the nanolaser were also investigated. © 2009 IOP Publishing Ltd.
