Abstract

The effect of a thin refractory paint coating on transient pool boiling heat transfer characteristics during quenching of a silver cylinder in saturated water has been investigated. The paint coating produces enhancement of heat transfer since the minimum film boiling temperature becomes higher with increasing coating thickness and an earlier onset of transition boiling is caused. The results agree well with theoretical calculations by the intermittent liquid-solid contact model.
