Abstract

In Ankara, Upper Dikmen, there is a shanty settlement area surrounded by shopping malls and plazas to meet the needs of upper-middle class elites. A multi-front war is being fought between those who want to seize it through "all kinds of methods" to make use of the great revenue yielding potential of the area, and residents who have developed different cooperation and struggle methods as well as resistance lines for the last five years. This article focuses on how the daily life circumstances and socio-economic status were influenced and changed of the women who oppose the demolition of their houses mainly in the last five years, using the results of observation of the area and in-depth interviews conducted with nine women residents.
