Responses of biology teachers of senior high school about utilization the local natural resources as learning media at Samarinda city

Abstract

Samarinda city has many natural resources. Local natural resources can be used as learning media to provide a contextual learning experience. Survey research was conducted in senior high schools at Samarinda City in the 2017/2018 academic year. The purpose of this research was to find out the responses of biology teachers in utilizing local natural resources as learning media for biology learning. The samples of this research were 25 biology teachers selected by using purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire. The data were analyzed by percentage. The results of this research show that 48% of the teachers have identified local natural resources as learning media; 60% of the teachers say that climate, weather, rainfall, gas content in the atmosphere are in the air; 56% of the teachers say that seaweed and mangrove forest are in the waters; and 64% of the teachers say that coal, natural gas, petroleum, oil palm, forests are in land; which can be used as learning media. The conclusion that some of the biology teachers have identified local natural resources in the air, waters and inland as learning media. Similar research needs to be conducted, especially by enlarging the samples to get further information.
