Abstract

A theoretical treatment of metal buffers in single and two phase systems is given. Equations are derived for the relationship between the pM-value on one hand, and the stability products of the complexes formed between the metal ions and the complexing ligands, as well as the pH of the solutions on the other hand. Examples are given for the use of the equations. Relevant data are given in tabulated form to aid potential users in the choice of suitable metal buffer systems. © 1987 IUPAC
