The Social Capital Saga: Harnessing Hyper Adaptive Business Framework Shaping Financial Destiny in a Turbulent MSME World

Abstract

In today’s dynamic business environments, adaptability is essential for sustained competitive advantage, especially for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), which often face resource constraints. This study explores the role of social capital, specifically its structural, relational, and cognitive dimensions, in fostering the development of a hyperadaptive business framework within MSMEs. We examine how this framework mediates the relationship between social capital and market, operational, and financial performance. Using a sample of MSMEs, our results reveal that all three dimensions of social capital significantly enhance a firm’s adaptability, improving market and operational outcomes. Notably, market performance has a more substantial impact on financial performance than operational efficiency, underscoring the importance of customer responsiveness in competitive markets. Contrary to expectations, environmental dynamism did not significantly moderate these relationships, suggesting that adaptable firms may be less sensitive to external volatility. This study extends the Resource-Based View (RBV) by demonstrating how social capital enables adaptability, transforming intangible assets into performance drivers for MSMEs. Practitioners are encouraged to cultivate social capital and adaptability to navigate uncertainty and sustain competitive success.
