Abstract
This study aimed to verify the presence of hemoparasites and antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum in canines and cats in municipalities of the state of Roraima. Sixty-one samples from canine patients and 32 from feline patients attended by veterinary clinics in the state of Roraima were evaluated. As the samples were subjected to rapid panic staining with blood smear reading performed under 1000x magnification optical light microscopy and detection of anti-T.gondii and anti-N.caninum tests was performed by immunofluorescence reaction indirect. 62.3% of canine patients and 25% of feline patients had hemoparasites. Positivity in dogs was 42.11% positive for Ehrlichia canis, 21.05% for Anaplasma platys, 7.89% for Mycoplasma haemocanis, 15.8% for Babesia spp. and 7.89% for Hepatozoon spp., 2.63% for Trypanosoma spp. and 2.63% for Leishmania spp. In felines, the positivity was 75% for Mycoplasma haemofelis and 25% for basic inclusions suggested by rickettsial agents. Antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum were found, respectively, in 52.46% and 63.93% of dogs. In cats, the presence of antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii was found in 65.63% of animals and against Neospora caninum in 15.62%. Therefore, the presence of hemoparasites in dogs and cats in the state of Roraima was verified, as well as the circulation of pathogens Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum in these two species. Veterinarians need to be able to include these microorganisms in the differential diagnosis of diseases with signs of hemoparasitic use and coccidial infections.
