Abstract

The merits and applicability of CITES to the management of mahogany(Swietenia macrophylla King) are assessed. Emphasis is placed onthe necessity for trade regulation in order to encourage the sustainablemanagement of S. macrophylla, including the protection of adequatepopulation and genetic resources throughout its range.
