Abstract
X-ray investigations show that TiS2 and TiSe2 as well as TaS2 and TaSe2 are completely miscible in the solid state. The lattice parameters do follow nearly Vegard's rule. In the case of substitution in the anion partial lattice the lattice constants a of the mixed phases are lower, c however larger than expected by Vegard's rule. By means of CVT methods using iodine as transport agent (1000 → 900°C) the mixed phases can be prepared in form of single crystals. Thermochemical calculations concerning the systems TiS2/I2 and TiSe2/I 2 show that the transport phenomena is due to the formation of gaseous TiI4. The transport occurs congruently. © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim.
