Abstract
A review of 3500 clinical histories of proctologic outpatients seen in the choloproctology service of a teaching hospital revealed 650 cases of anal fissure in one of its 3 stages, representing 18.6% of the total. A detailed study of the incidence of this disease was made by age, race, sex and location. Each stage which may present an anal fissure is described, and the signs and symptoms necessary for a positive diagnosis are explained. The diseases from which this condition should be differentiated are also mentioned. The 3 stages of anal fissure are illustrated and the possible causes of this pathology are explained. The medical and surgical treatment used and the results obtained are given, together with an illustrated description of the procedures adopted and the corresponding preoperative and postoperative conditions. The results obtained are summarized, ending with a table giving details of the etiopathogenesis, symptoms, signs, treatments employed and percentage of success.
