Abstract
Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability are increasingly considered as fields for innovation, whereby companies try to produce economic and social value simultaneously. However, most approaches on sustainability innovations focus on one single and integrated firm. By contrast, this article develops the conceptual foundations to explore the conditions and limits surrounding the emergence of such innovations in the context of complex value chains involving a series of corporations, which are hierarchically and legally distinct from one another. © 2011 Lavoisier, Paris.
