Commodification of the territory and reconfiguration of violence against women: The case of the leaders in the environmental movements against the monoculture of the pineapple in Costa Rica

Abstract

The incorporation of digital technologies in social movements led by women redefines gender violence. This study works in the territories with the leading women of the ecologist movements to rediscover how digital technologies are at the same time a great supporter of social movement and also an element that reconfigures violence against women. To do an in-depth analysis, it is developed a case study with action-research methodologies. It is proposed that the violence against women is comprehensive and impossible to divide in online and offline violence. It demonstrates the need for in-depth studies about new violence against women because of theirs gender condition and their leadership.
