Abstract

Is there a shortage or surplus of doctorates in computer science? In 1995, Massy and Goldman [3] predicted a national oversupply of doctorates in a number of science fields, while Ralston [6] provided a case study of an abundance of applicants for a faculty position at his institution. But by last year, Kieburtz [1] was reporting that CS Ph.D.'s were in short supply.
