Abstract

The statistical content of a recent thermodynamic analogy introducing the concept of entropy into landscape evolution is investigated. It is shown that this thermodynamic analogy is indeed physically fully justified, provided the regression of the fluctuations is linear. Some consequences of this analogy on the evolution of mountain ranges and slopes are presented. © 1964 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
