The CaCO3-filled natural rubber in the existence of dodecanol: Mechanical properties

Abstract

The mechanical properties of calcium carbonate (CaCO3)-filled natural rubber (NR) vulcanizates due to the incorporations of dodecanol were examined. The NR compounds were filled by CaCO3 with a certain concentration, thirty phr. The dodecanol, as a rubber chemical, was derived from palm kernel oil and incorporated into CaCO3-filled NR compounds at one, three, five and seven phr. The recipe of the NR compounds was a semi efficient cure system and the NR compounds were vulcanized at a hundred and fifty degrees of Celsius. Based on the overall results, it was found that the dodecanol was not only a curative rubber chemical but also plasticizing agent. As a curative rubber chemical, dodecanol raised difference in torque up to a five phr of incorporation. As a plasticizing agent, the dodecanol enhanced the degree of filler dispersion. It was also found that the dodecanol raised the crosslink density up to a five phr of loading. A five phr was an optimum loading of dodecanol for the CaCO3-filled NR compounds.
