Abstract

BALL AND PLASTIC CLAYS IN THE STATE OF SÃO PAULO-GEOLOGICAL FEATURES. Ball and plastic clays are important raw materials for whiteware ceramics providing properties such as the plasticity, binder and suspension during the making process. A great deal of ceramic goods for house purposes, such as sanitary ware, tableware, floor and wall tiles, and technical ceramic products like isolators, are made using up to 50% of these clays. Most of the whiteware product factories are located in or around São Paulo State using clays from this state, mainly from São Simão County, a place located 300 kilometers northwest of São Paulo City. Other plastic clays occur along São Paulo and boundary states, but together they couldn't be enough for future supplies. The results presented here reffers to a geological and ceramic evaluation for ball and plastic clays on basis of sedimentary and supergenic kaolinitic clay origins.
