Abstract

On considering the growing marginalization of the Humanities in universities in the country and abroad as consequence of the technicization of knowledge under the rule of scientific innovation, competition and internationalization, I present some positions in defense of the Humanities and of literary studies, in particular, on the part of prominent contemporary scholars, and develop some thoughts on: the dominant meaning of science in the context of the ties between university and state policies; the definition of parameters of validation of faculty production by granting state agencies that apply these parameters on the basis of the calculus of efficient reason; the effects of such parameters in the field of literary studies; the necessity of evaluation of merit that does not undermine the relevancy and singularity of literary studies in terms of teaching and research activities. In this context, I highlight some topics that emerged in texts presented in the XXX Conference of Anpoll, in July 2015.
