Abstract

Eggs are food products of animal origin which are in great demand by various groups of people because they contain nutrients that are good for the human body at a relatively cheap price. Farmers of small and medium laying hens are often constrained by maintenance management, especially those related to labor. The feeding process requires considerable time and labor costs. These problems can be overcome by using a variety of the latest technologies in the field of animal husbandry. Established laying companies usually use technology in running their businesses, especially in maintenance management. This research was conducted from March to May 2015 at laying hens CV. Gunung Nago, Balai Gadang Village, Koto Tangah District, Padang (West Sumatra). The purpose of this study was to determine the time and cost efficiency of using feed spreaders compared to manual methods. The retrieval of primary data shows that the use of a feed spreader with a population of ± 15,000 heads can save labor time from 351 minutes / day to 44 minutes / day (time efficiency of 62,4%). The use of machinery also produces better production with an average daily production of 87.1% and the use of feed spreaders also saves labor costs from IDR 3,600,000 to 2,466,000 with cost efficiency of 31.5%.
