Three-dimensional incompressible hydrodynamic turbulence is driven to a statistically steady state. A strong uniform rotation is then turned on. It is shown that the turbulence reduces to an approximate two-dimensional state. Furthermore, the energy inverse cascades to longer length scales. © 1994 American Institute of Physics.
