Abstract

Health services are essential to society, but their implementation involves several risks, including those associated with environmental impacts. The adequate management of these risks is still a challenge to many hospitals. This paper presents a methodology to identify, assess and manage environmental risks involved in the internal processes of a hospital, applied to the process of handling chemotherapy drugs. Results allowed for a clear perception of processes that can cause the most significant environmental impacts and therefore should be prioritized in actions for improvement. The methodology was considered practical and easy to being performed by healthcare managers, whom are subjected to excessive work and lack of resources. It also represents a step forward towards a change of mentality in this sector, which is normally focused only in adequacy to legislation.
