Abstract

In cognitive ergonomics, prototyping consists in simulating the interface of a product, completely or partially, to obtain information on how users interact with the future product. The evaluation of the prototype allows verifying how the software should work with the user perspective. Performed early enough in the cycle of development, prototyping can detect usability problems and verify user requirements before coding, and optimize the process and development costs. Depending on the stage of development and areas for testing, prototyping can be achieved by different degrees of reliability towards the final application, and on different media. Different techniques allows to measure usability from a prototype. © 2009 Lavoisier, Paris.
