Abstract

In the absence of technical information on how songwriters compose, this article uses testimonials from composers which reveal −from very particular creative strategies −a strong awareness of the language in which they operate. In fact, the practice of blending melody and lyrics is substantially different from musical and literary experiences, when considered singly. That’s because the encounter of those two components generates prosodic (not just musical) melodies that respond in good measure via the persuasiveness of the language. Furthermore, other forms of compatibility between melody and lyrics (such as thematization and passionalization) support the meaning of the song, often eliminating the need for verbal coherence of its lyrics
