Abstract

School education is an effective tool to improve intelligence, skills, and develop human potential. In improving the quality of education in schools, principals must be able to foster and direct teachers to work together professionally to improve the quality of teaching and education to students. This study aims to uncover and analyze the role of school principals in implementing and improving school quality management at the elementary school level. This research method is qualitative with a prepositivistic paradigm. The informants of this study were one principal and three, namely grade IV and fifth grade teachers and sports teachers. The consideration of choosing informants was based on the consideration that the informants had changed principals for several times, so that they knew the performance of each principal. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation, and documentation. Furthermore, the data were analyzed qualitatively which included data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The result of the research is that the principal performs the role as the principal in accordance with his role (job description), namely as manager, leader or leader, supervisor or supervisor, administrator, educator or educator, innovator, and motivator. The principal is committed to continuously improving the quality of graduates, realizing the school's vision and mission, realizing active and effective learning, and producing good learning with the priority of developing the morale of students.
