Abstract
Introduction: The purpose of this study was to assess the changes in the circadian and homeostatic control of the sleep-wake cycle in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and correlate the findings with salivary melatonin levels. Methods: The study cohorts were 21 subjects with a diagnosis of T2DM of more than one year and 21 healthy subjects age and gender matched. Subjects were assessed by the Beck's Depression Inventory (BDI), the Apnea Risk Evaluation System (ARES) questionnaire, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), actigraphy and salivary melatonin levels.
