Comportamiento del hipotiroidismo, diabetes y la obesidad en tiempos de pandemia de COVID-19

Abstract

RESUMEN La diabetes mellitus y la obesidad son consideradas patologías de importancia global en salud pública y factores de riesgo para el desarrollo de enfermedades cardiovasculares y enfermedades infecciosas. En el mundo existe un pobre reporte de datos con respecto a las comorbilidades, los resultados de la enfermedad por coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) y los mecanismos que modulan la patogénesis viral, pero se ha descrito que las personas más vulnerables a la infección tienen enfermedades preexistentes que incluyen diabetes, hipertensión, obesidad, enfermedades cardiovascula-res e inflamación crónica. Teniendo en cuenta la alta prevalencia de diabetes, hipertensión y obesidad en Colombia y en el mundo, el aumento sustancial del riesgo de COVID-19 y sus complicaciones en pacientes con estas afecciones, es probable que la pandemia tenga el potencial para causar mortalidad y morbilidad significativas. En esta revisión se presenta información sobre la diabetes, el hipotiroidismo, la obesidad y la infección por el nuevo coronavirus 2 del síndrome res-piratorio agudo grave, con el fin de establecer las complicaciones, riesgos y medidas de manejo de estas patologías en tiempos de pandemia. ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus and obesity are considered patholo-gies of importance in public health in the world and risk factors for the development of cardiovascular and infectious diseases. Globally, there is poor reporting of data regarding comorbidities, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) results and the mechanisms that modulate viral pathogenesis, but it has been described that people most vulnerable to infection have pre-existing diseases including diabetes, hypertension, obesity , cardiovascular diseases and chronic inflammation. Considering the high prevalence of diabetes, hypertension and obesity in Colombia and worldwide, the substantial increase in the risk of COVID-19 and its complications in patients with these conditions, it is probable that the pandemic has the potential to cause significant mortality and morbidity. This review presents information on diabetes, hypothyroidism, obesity , and infection with the new severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, in order to establish the complications, risks, and management measures for these pathologies in pandemic times.
