Abstract
Although treatment of choice for this malignant lesion is generally considered to be surgical, this adolescent patient, who presented with a large mesenchymal chrondrosarcoma of the right neck, remains disease free both locally and systemically 6 years after aggressive chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The patient did not undergo surgery because of the location and wide extent of the tumor. Because this disease appears to have a propensity for both local recurrence and distant metastasis, it is necessary to treat the patient vigorously with radiation and/or surgery and systemic chemotherapy. After treatment, the patient should be followed carefully with bone scanning and roentgenographic studies for several years, because of the tendency for late tumor recurrence or spread.
