Abstract

This checklist relied on the collaboration of 17 researchers; nine from Mato Grosso do Sul and eight from other units of the country. Arachis L. (29 species), Desmodium Desv. (25 species), Aeschynomene L. (21 species), Stylosanthes Sw. (17 species) and Crotalaria L. (16 species) are the most representative of Papilionoideae. The genus Mimosa L. aggregates 30 taxa (17 species, 10 varieties, three subspecies) followed by Senegalia Raf. (seven species) and Calliandra Benth. (five species), all in Mimosoideae. Chamaecrista Moench (22 species), Senna Mill. (17 species), and Bauhinia L. (15 species) have the highest number of species in Caesalpinioideae. In general, the diversity of the family is concentrated in nine genera, with 15-29 species, and most genera have one to three species. Leguminosae, one of the most dominant groups in the Brazilian flora for Mato Grosso do Sul, with roughly 15% of total legume species estimated for Brazil.
