Abstract

In this article highlights of the isobutene research carried out at the University of Akron (1980), TU Munich (1981-1985), University of Mainz (1985-1986), University of Bayreuth (1986-1992) and TU Munich (1992-present) will be reviewed. In chronological order work related to the synthesis of three-arm star telechelics, basic studies about the initiation step of "classical" binifer systems, the reversibility of the termination, recycling of the co-catalyst, strategies for the synthesis of graft and block co-polymers, the discovery of the selfcondensation and finally a new type of initiator will be described. © VSP 2005.
