Abstract

he subject of this paper is grounded theory that is based on a research strategy aims to produce theory by using data obtained from field studies. Grounded theory introduces procedures of producing theory by asking questions to the data and making comparisons. Article aims to introduce this strategy to researchers who are studying on sociological sciences and fields and who want to produce newer perspectives and to discuss its capacity on producing theories. In the article, after preliminary information about the theory, its processes of data collecting and analyses in addition to methods of sampling are investigated. Grounded theory strategy follows a cyclical procedure. It starts with a few investigative questions. With these data analyzed, new questions are produced and sampling procedure starts over. This cycle continues until a framework has been reached. In the first place, the strategy is likely to result in concepts that have a relatively limited abstraction ability. However as the field studies based on grounded theory are repeated, producing concepts with higher level of abstraction ability and even newer theories seem possible.
