The Influence of Seating Arrangement on EFL Students’ Speaking Performance in the Classroom

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of seating arrangements on classroom dynamics, student engagement, and academic performance. The study explores various seating configurations, including traditional rows, clusters, and circular formations, and their effect on interaction, attention, and overall learning outcomes. Through a series of controlled observations and, data were collected on student focus, participation, and collaboration in different seating setups. The findings suggest that flexible seating arrangements, such as clusters or circular designs, significantly enhance student interaction and communication, leading to improved academic performance and a more positive classroom environment. Additionally, personalized seating options cater to diverse learning preferences, fostering a sense of autonomy and comfort. This study provides valuable insights into how educators can optimize classroom layouts to support effective learning, enhance student engagement, and promote collaborative work. The research also emphasizes the importance of considering psychological and social factors when designing classroom spaces to achieve maximum educational impact.
