Abstract

Recent discussion of the analysis of poverty at old age draws attention to the limitations of currently dominant approaches. Measuring the incidence of poverty at old age is an important first step in understanding it, but measurement alone does not explain the causes of poverty. This paper draws the discussions on the causes of elderly poverty across the countries and develops an analytic framework of poverty at old age. Research framework and propositions are suggested to guide the future research in this area.
