Cowpea and groundnut are the most economically important grain legume crops of the family Fabaceae that are of vital importance to the livelihood of several millions of people in the Nigerian savanna (Larry et al., 2008). The crops apart from improving soil fertility through nitrogen fixation also provide food, animal feed, alongside cash income to farmers in rural communities (Dugje et al., 2009).
