Abstract

We investigate the mathematical description of signals that are commonly used in the analysis of technical problems. From a mathematical point of view it would be useful to limit the signals of interest to the set of continuous functions. However, this has several disadvantages. For example, suppose we are interested in the transient response of, say, a series RC low-pass-filter (LPF) to an input step voltage.
