Abstract

Assuming that gender is a constitutive of subjective process, this study aimed to discuss the gender in issues that emerge in "The length of day" (A duração do dia - in Portuguese), of Adélia Prado. Were selected and analyzed in depth four poems in the present work, from a reading of gender. In contrast to the dichotomy of gender categories are historically constructed, the poetic "Adeliana" shows into question a concept of gender leaflet, in which women occupy different positions and would not be sentenced to an absolute inferiority in relation to males. Thus, gender and femininity would not only marks the poetic "adeliana" but privileged anchor points for addressing the issues of contemporary Brazilian woman. A crossroads between Christian religiosity and sexuality is one of the central points of these poems, reflecting the embodied experience of being a woman in Brazilian history and culture.
