AVANCE DE INVESTIGACION: ANTECEDENTES SOBRE PRODUCCION DE AVELLANAS

Abstract

RESUMEN Gevuina avellana Mol. es una especie forestal chilena de amplia distribución que crece for-mando parte especialmente de los bosques de Fagáceas. No ha alcanzado mayor importancia económica pero es conocida por la belleza de su madera y de su follaje y por sus frutos llamados avellanas. Este avance de investigación entrega infor-mación sobre la producción de avellanas obte-nidas en árboles de diferentes diámetros en Ma-lleco y en plantaciones de tres edades en Fru-tillar. Se discuten los resultados obtenidos, se su-giere la conveniencia de efectuar plantaciones locales con esta especie y se señalan las eta-pas que deben seguirse para continuar esta in-vestigación. SUMMARY Gevuina avellana Mol. is a chilean tree of wide distribution which is especially common in Nothofagus forests. Avellano is not of great economic significance but is known for its beu-tiful wood and foliage and for its edible fruits. This preliminary report deals with fruit production of different size trees in Malleco and plantations of three ages in Frutillar. The possibility of producing avellano fruits in plantations and the required research are discussed.
