Abstract

The wave two-dimensional wave front generated by a circular source in a transversely isotropic piezoelectric solid of crystal class 6mm was investigated. The existence of a piezoelectric crystal possessing up to twelve cuspidal points on one branch of the wave front is reported. Some numerical mappings are presented, which show and classify the region of the number of cusped points in a material parameter space for pure transversely isotropic solids and piezoelectric solids of crystal class 6mm. © Oxford University Press 2004; all rights reserved.
